This is apparently the video CNN will play when the world ends

It’s bonkers.

WHEN CNN LAUNCHED in 1980, the channel’s founder Ted Turner stated that the channel would still be airing as the world ended and that its final transmission would be the song Nearer My God to Thee.

We’ll be on, and we will cover the end of the world, live, and that will be our last event. We’ll play the National Anthem only one time, on the first of June [the day CNN launched], and when the end of the world comes, we’ll play ‘Nearer My God To Thee’ before we sign off.

Turns out he wasn’t messing.

A former CNN intern has unearthed and published a video that is allegedly the final clip the news channel will broadcast in the event of the world ending.

The grainy video is rather ominously titled Turner Doomsday Video and features a US Army band performing Nearer My God to Thee, just as Turner once alluded to.

Michael Ballaban posted the video on Jalopnik yesterday and stated that the video can be found in the CNN database where it is marked, “HFR till the end of the world confirmed”.

Just imagine this being the last thing you ever saw before the apocalypse.

Also a missed opportunity to just play REM’s It’s The End of the World, tbh.
